How to Caulk a Shower Stall Video
From: Home Addition
Simple Tips on Caulking a Shower StallBy Mark J. DonovanLast week I was able to try out some new caulk from DAP on a shower stall caulking project. I did a short video on it, so check it out below. In the video I show a few simple tips on how to caulk a shower stall. All you need to do it right is some silicone based caulk, a caulking gun, a utility knife, a rag, and some masking tape.It is important to remove all of the old caulk prior to installing new caulk as silicone caulk sticks well to everything except itself. Use a utility knife to help cut away and scrape out the old caulk. After removing all of the old caulk and cleaning up the shower pan with a rag, I then apply masking tape just above and below the seam I want to caulk. This helps to get a fast and clean caulk line.Once the mask...

How To Use Acrylic Latex Caulk

We've been doing a lot of remodeling work in our kitchen recently. Removing wallpaper and installing beadboard paneling were the first two steps to updating the kitchen. Now we are painting and caulking. I have decided that wood putty is best suited for filling nail holes and acrylic latex caulk is great at filling in large gaps in trim-work and everywhere that the beadboard paneling doesn't quite meet up with door and window frames. Caulking Baseboards Doesn't Work. So What's the Solution?

I always see advice about caulking baseboards, and I wonder how other people get this to work. When we talk about baseboard caulk, we're talking about applying painter's caulk to the upper ridge of the baseboard, where the baseboard meets the wall.  Or should we say:  where the baseboard is supposed to meet the wall... Why People Caulk Baseboards Yet often, baseboards do not meet the wall.  Even in newer walls, you'll find gentle curves which form gaps along the tops of the baseboards. In extreme cases, these gaps are so big that they allow air infiltration and can seriously impact your energy bills.  In minor cases, these gaps are simply unattractive.  I think that when...

Removing Shower Ceramic Wall Tile
A New Video on the Removal of Ceramic Wall Tile from a Shower StallBy Mark J. DonovanIn the below video, I show the first stage in remodeling a custom ceramic tile shower, the removal of the shower ceramic wall tile. When removing shower ceramic wall tile make sure you where safety goggles and leather gloves as chips of ceramic tile fly everywhere. This 3’x3’ shower stall area took about 3 hours to completely remove the ceramic wall tiles. I used a hammer, heavy duty chisel, and a utility knife to remove the ceramic wall tile. It requires some significant hand strength as you will be swinging a hammer for an extensive period of time.If you plan to replace your shower tile and want to keep the existing shower pan, make sure to lay cardboard in the shower pan prior to removing the ceramic...
