Cape Cod to the Core

A Cape is a Cape is a Cape... Isn't it? Sometimes it's hard to
tell. As I collected photos for our new Cape Cod Photo Gallery, I
was amazed at the the variety. The Cape Cod style has come a long
way from those little houses built by New England settlers. But
look beyond the sidelights, patterned brick, and other
embellishments, and you'll see - these charming homes are Cape Cods

brand new?

This reader hired a local craftsman to build a modern-day Queen
Anne. It's not just the turret and the wrap-around porch that make
this house seem authentic. The builder was able to incorporate a
beautiful oak staircase salvaged from an old church. Is your house

Reader Showcase: Small Victorian, Big Roof

You'd expect to see a tall mansard roof on a grandiose Second
Empire style mansion, but how about this Victorian cottage? In a
house this small, the only way to grow is up, so the owners raised
the ceiling and put in wooden trap doors to gain extra space. See
